About
the peripeteia, the old name for this space, is a turn of events/change in circumstances. This is often tragic. Tragic in the Shakespearean sense and we litter the stage, our world, with dead bodies or Chekhovian and be melancholy and depressed, yet, alive. the (b)loom mostly chooses the latter.
Many photos here are from my work as a humanitarian advisor. There are quite a few from Myanmar primarily from 2010-2012/13 when I started to take more photographs—more to capture the decaying beauty of Yangon at a time in history when it was beginning to change. There are photos of the Rohingya, documenting what is now over decade of internal and external displacement. Those photos are all either from Rakhine, Myanmar, Bangladesh or Indonesia in IDP and refugee camps, respectively.
I’ve been involved in humanitarian work in the region since the early 2000’s—first in Nepal, Sri Lanka, India and then Myanmar. I didn’t have a smartphone until 2012, but I did have a little canon Sureshot somewhere along the way as well as an old Pentax. In 2012/13, I took up an Asia regional advisory role, so there are photos here from Philippines (various humanitarian responses), Vietnam, Afghanistan, western China, Indonesia, Fiji and others.
There are other things represented: my cat, Philabellphia Django, lovingly known as Bellers; friends, unusual potraits, streetscapes; some nature shots and travel photos; some yearly vignettes and jivan mukhti moments (a little liberation in this life). There may also be a bit of music to partake of, but best to follow me on spotify or instagram @davidbrickeybloomer
If you have a poignant story to tell, humanitarian or otherwise, and would like someone to document it, do get in touch.
